The Year 11 VCE Vocational Major students participated in a Tools Skills Day, which is a program developed by Empowered Women in Trades. Students were given the opportunity to develop the tool-handling skills needed for plumbing and electrical work. The program also allowed students to explore in-demand jobs and career paths in non-traditional fields.
Hands-on learning was complemented by a positive psychology workshop that encouraged students to reflect on their inner strengths. The workshop also helped students overcome self-doubt and inspired them to embrace challenges.
A highlight of the day was following the directions to measure, cut, and weld pipes. The pipes came together to spell ‘Melbourne Girls’ College’.
