Curriculum @ MGC
Melbourne Girls’ College is a leader in contemporary educational practice firmly grounded in values of excellence, teamwork and diversity.
Our programs explicitly teach strategies, habits and dispositions that are deeply connected to a growth mindset. Information literacy, learning methods and technologies are incorporated into every learning area.
Our teachers are committed, caring and high performing professionals who challenge and encourage their students to take healthy risks in their learning and be imaginative and solution-focused in their thinking.
As a high performing girls’ College, we believe we have a responsibility to foster the participation of young women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM). Our curriculum explicitly develops creativity, problem solving and innovative thinking; essential life skills and fundamental to STEAM programs.
In Years 7 to 10, our progressive curriculum offers students flexible program content and delivery to meet their individual developmental needs. Classes are longer, allowing for in-depth immersion in content, and subjects are strategically combined to be more interesting and meaningful.
Our core curriculum is complemented by an extensive elective program from Year 8. Students who have demonstrated appropriate readiness in their Year 9 studies are also encouraged to include a VCE subject as part of their Year 10 program.
The College offers an extensive range of Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) subjects in Years 11 and 12, including the Vocational Major, a Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) exemplary program that provides pathways to further vocational studies.
