House Athletics Carnival

House Athletics – Friday 6th May at Box Hill Atheltic Club

The widely anticipated Athletics Carnival finally was able to be ran for the first time since 2019. No amount of bad forecasts and bus strikes could stop our school from putting on a wonderful day by all who attended. On a chilly morning our students travelled out to Box Hill and for our Year 7, 8 & 9’s – it was their first Athletics Carnival in Secondary Schooling. The nerves did not deter any student and participation across all the events was consistent.

The sun came out and so did some fantastic sprints, long distance running, jumps and throws. Records were broken and the excitement was back for our next whole school event on the calendar. Noncompeting students were able to enjoy novelty activities as well with the longest footy kick, tough Mudder obstacle course, sack race and tug of war being ran by the sport captains and extra volunteers in the background.

Mr. Vance and his team supplied a delicious cooked BBQ that was enjoyed by many and the famous pedal powered smoothies made a return to our wonderful event. Mrs. Busetti and the art captains ran the face painting once more which was a hit. Well done to the Year 12’s for beating Mr. Monaghan, Miss. Wong, Miss Nicholl’s and Mr. Anderson in the staff v student 4 x 100m relay. A fierce battle took place on the home straight. It was so nice to see teachers and students enjoying the day out of the classroom.

At the end of the day, there could only be one winner though and that House was LYONS! Well done to Lyons House on winning their first sport carnival in over 5 years. 2nd was Melba, 3rd was Maris and the defending champions from 2019 were 4th in Chisholm.

A special thanks to all students that came along. As well as all teachers and staff that helped with the running of the carnival in all roles from start to finish. Your help is greatly appreciated.
