BUDDY PROGRAM 2018
The recently launched Buddy Program at Melbourne Girls’ College aims to welcome new international students (ISP) on their first day, enhance the greater sense of belonging and supportive school community by partnering local and new international students for the day.
This year’s Buddy Program was held on the 19th November with the participation of 14 new ISP students and 10 local students. The girls had great fun playing various “get to know you” games. They were very excited in introducing themselves and learning more about their new friends’ backgrounds and interests. Followed these activities were school tour and lunch, where the current students could introduce the school’s facilities to new students, share their experience and provide insight into MGC’s life.
The Buddy Program would not have been possible without the strong support of all teachers and students. The International Student Division would like to extend our gratitude for everyone’s support. Special thanks to Ms Day and Ms Shi who have introduced us to all the lovely local students and gone through the journey with us from the very beginning of the Buddy program. We also want to thank all the buddies for having been so supportive, friendly and open to our new international students. We hope that many friendships will be formed and maintained through this program.
Testimonials from students
I really enjoyed my time involved in the Buddy Program! It was a really great event that I learnt a lot from. Meeting new people from other countries was really insightful, and it was a lot of fun to get to know each other though games and conversations. I definitely have made some great friends!

Buddy program is a great program which helps us make friends easily and not feel awkward when we move to a new school. I’m really appreciate that Melbourne Girls organize this program, it’s really a fun and useful experience especially for international students like me. I made a lot of new friends, they are all nice and adorable. I hope that our school will continue with the Buddy program and make this program bigger and bigger.
