Human Powered Cinema
MGC has been celebrating sustainability for over a decade and is proud to host the world’s only annual Human Powered Moonlight Cinema on the final Friday in February each year. Bring your family along to Melbourne Girls’ College in Richmond to participate in a unique event on the picturesque banks of the Yarra River. Check out the video here.
Students will pedal and row all day to generate electricity to show the film and the public are encouraged to book a 5 minute riding slot from 5pm to ensure we never run out of fuel! Speaking of fuel, the good folk from “With One Bean” will be selling pedal powered, carbon neutral coffees throughout the night. Bike n Blend will literally be pedalling their magic fruit smoothies to wash down the hot buttered popcorn and a low food mile BBQ will be on sale- All that or you can BYO picnic and drinks and make a great, carbon neutral night of it!
Entertainment including musicians, face painters and side show attractions like the pedal powered slot cars and ‘Renewable Energy Sideshow Alley’ will be operating from when the gates open at 5pm. The film will begin at dusk. Sign up to a pedal or rowing spot online:
…or simply jump on one of the generators when a position becomes available- if the wheels stop spinning, so does the film!
1 – Wet weather arrangements – the movie will be screened in the auditorium.
2 – Entry for children 10 and under is free.
